Another week another song

August 26, 2008

Hi it’s Ezra. Last night was great, so great. We had our final show of the month at Schuba’s Tavern which hosted us every Monday in August. It was a raving success and thank you all who came and made it so good. We now have our new album for sale, not in stores, only in person–it comes out October 7th.

We put up a new song on Myspace from the album. “The Faceless Boy” is what it’s called and it’s about a boy with no face and a girl with no hands. It’s got a good story and it’s sad and spooky. And I wrote it when I was fifteen! That was a long time ago and I still feel the same way. SOMETIMES.

I’m DJ-ing tonight on WXRT. It’s gonna be good. At 10-11 pm. 93.1 fm. Entering that radio dreamland. And you might hear some Harpoons music too. Actually you definitely will. If you listen to it.

THE END GOD DAMN IT

It’s twelve songs long.

We put up a new song on MySpace. “The Dishwasher.” This is a big song that comes from a time freshman year of college when I had a job washing dishes and I was very unhappy. I was afraid that to become a man you have to relinquish your true self. I was afraid that you have to become whatever job you hold, like in the movie TAXI DRIVER. I sometimes still get afraid. So this is maybe why I write songs.

I hope you like it. We worked hard. I burned my hands on a lot of dishes to get this song, just unloading them faster than necessary before they were cool enough. I feel like our band got unloaded before we were cool enough. Screw it, we’ll never be cool, we’re just a good band. Oh kay that’s enough of all that.

Maybe I’ll see you tonight at 8 at Schuba’s. I’m playing alone with my guitar. And then next week is our last show of the residency this month… we’ll play all together as a band, and even have copies of the new album, for sale for the first time ever! Ah! They just came in today. That’s all.

Love Ezra

Song #3, awoo!

August 11, 2008

Hello faithful people. It’s Ezra. A third song from our new album INSIDE THE HUMAN BODY has now been put up on MySpace. It’s called “The Stakes Are High” and it is a rockin’ wild song about the Moral Challenge. Maimonides said that we should regard ourselves and the entire world as being in perfect moral balance between good and evil, and our next act could tip the scales to either side. That’s why the song is called what it’s called. We tried to be honest in the song.

Adam says it’s his favorite song on the album. This makes me raise my eyebrows in excitement. I haven’t thought about which one is my favorite. But you’ll get to hear it, whatever it is, if you just pay attention. (I bet it turns out to be the song called “The Worm in the Apple.”) Anyway. I wanna say thank you to Andrew Langer who played the lead guitar parts… he made the song way better. Okay that is all. We’re playing at Schuba’s tonight. It’s going to be really good. You should come. Or next Monday. Or the one after that.

THAT’S ALL

LOVE EZRA

Hello, it’s Ezra. Adam taught me how to use this. We’ve put up another song (from the forthcoming new album!) on our Myspace site, and it’s called “Take Off Your Sunglasses.” I wrote it a while back in my friend Rosie’s dorm room. I was in her room and I had my guitar so she said, “Well, play something,” and I just started making things up as I went. What came out is pretty much what you will hear on the album– on her suggestion I wrote it all down. Thanks, Rosie.

Last night was… crazy. We played a show and it was great. But before that! There was a tornado somewhere in Chicago, and the car broke down, and I wrenched my back horribly so I was in pain for the whole night. But the show was great. And the crowd was maybe even greater. We debuted a new song called “Portrait of Maud” which we wrote for an Australian compilation (called the Australian Bookshelf Project) that asks a bunch of artists to write songs with the titles they give you. We got Portrait of Maud and we made a pretty great song out of it.

“Lewis and Clark Blaze the West” – August 4th, 2008 at Schuba’s in Chicago.

  1. Take Off Your Sunglasses
  2. My Soul Has Escaped From My Body
  3. The Stakes Are High
  4. Halloween Snow
  5. Portrait of Maud
  6. We Should Fight
  7. How Long, Diana?
  8. Big Deal
  9. The Worm in the Apple
  10. Mother’s Day
  11. Don’t Turn Your Back On Love

So, no big surprise, Chicago welcomes us back with open arms. Now we are preparing for the next three shows at Schuba’s (every Monday this month). They are going to be great. We are covering an entire John Lennon album at the next one… I think you will like it.
