On The Radio, ah ah.
October 16, 2008
Yes you heard me right. They’ve been playing Ezra Furman & the Harpoons on Chicago’s best radio station, WXRT, 93.1 FM. That is really awesome for me, having listened to it since I was a kid. And you can too! Even if you’re not a kid anymore.
Chicagoans, turn the dial to 93.1 FM and you just might hear some Harpoons action.
Non-Chicagoans, don’t despair! It is online.
You can listen to the first-ever mainstream radio station with the good sense to play our music at www. wxrt. com.
It’s streaming live.
I knew we’d infiltrate the airwaves one day, and today is that day. And it’s only the beginning…

NEW ALBUM COMES OUT TOMORROW!
October 6, 2008
They called Ezra Furman & the Harpoons a flash in the pan. Oh wait, no, they called us brilliant. Well all that talk don’t add up to a hill o’ beans! Because we have a new album, and it comes out tomorrow. Tuesday October 7th 2008. In stores all over the USA. The wait is over and we’ve got twelve new songs to bruise you honey.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Is it a good album?
A: It is. It’s got fire and heart. It’s uplifting and frightening. We rock and we roll, we explain and expound. It has moments of real greatness. It is fierce and it is tender. It is melodic and it is screamy. Good for an intellectual analyzer, good for a mindless pop music junkie. Equally lovable for the hippest and for the least hip. It’s rock and roll, kiddo, and don’t you forget it.
Q: How many songs are on it?
A: 12 songs plus a hidden track, but the hidden track’s not on it.
Q: Is it different than the first Harpoons album?
A: Yes. For one thing, the extremes are intensified: the loud songs are louder, the tender songs are tenderer. The smart songs are smarter and the moving songs are movinger. For another thing, I started playing electric guitar, which I didn’t do last time, and we got the great Andrew Langer from the Redwalls to help us out. For another thing, it’s more cohesive: the songs are more about the same thing, it’s less of a collection of scattered songs and more of an artful song cycle.
Q: Is it better?
A: Yes.
Q: Why is it called INSIDE THE HUMAN BODY?
A: We live in a time when we ask the scholars what we are and they tell us about anatomy and chemistry. Their answer is the body. I am trying to develop my own answer. There is a feeling, which I perhaps naively take to be a feeling of the utmost importance, that we are something more than just a body and a brain, that there is a self and a soul somewhere in there. What could be INSIDE the human body that makes this possible? What are the beautiful depths of ourselves that we do not understand? And what is inside us waiting to come out? Here on this record which you can buy in a store I do believe that little something has come out, and it has come out to play with you. I got very caught up in the past several years with the unhappiness of having a body, feeling pain and being deceived by synapses misfiring and by sexual tricks your body and others play on you–what is going on, I wondered, inside the human body? And how do we transcend it?
Q: Do you know that you are very pretentious?
A: Yes.
So there’s your answer: buy a copy of our new album. It’s really great. I mean, you DO want to have your finger on the pulse of rock n roll, don’t you? That pulse happens to be coursing through the veins of this very band. It’s got an ancient beat and I think you’ll like it. Don’t ignore us; not anymore.
I’ll see you at the next show.
Love Ezra
